Rick Santorum Surging In Polls & 2012 Presidential Betting Odds
It’s always funny to see the presidential campaign advertisements come on TV once the election starts to heat up. There is always some venomous attack on viewpoints that sometimes way out from left field, and almost always aimed at the biggest threat. Lately, President Obama’s advertisements have made a big shift from Mitt Romney to Rick Santorum, who is creeping up on as public enemy number 1 for the Democrats. In fact, he’s number 1 for a lot of people.
President Obama’s campaign has been mainly focusing on Mitt Romney, who was thought to be the real threat in the race. But after Santorum swept up caucuses in both Minnesota, Colorado, and a non-binding caucus in Missouri, the campaign administration has brought out the shovels to dig up anything they can find on Santorum. Even Obama’s campaign director, Bill Hyers, sent an e-mail asking supporters to find information that would show Santorum’s true colors to the country. Santorum can only sit back and enjoy this surge of popularity and think “Haters gon’ hate”.
Santorum couldn’t have found a better time to catch fire as the first primary nears in Michigan, where his opponent Romney is from. Romney, too, hasn’t paid much attention up to this point to Santorum. But with Romney and Santorum headed into Michigan, all of that could change rather quickly. If Santorum can pull off a win, which he is favored to win in polls conducted by the Detroit News and a Mitchell/Rosetta Stone survey, both Romney and Obama are grabbing shovels and digging with the rest of them.
Romney’s odds to win the Presidential Election are shrinking and according to Bovada.com, they are set at even to win the primary in his native state. Santorum seems to be closing the gap all of the time, with odds at -130 for the primary. The following primary in Arizona has Romney at -600 and Santorum at +375, but with a victory in Michigan, you know that Santorum will be shrinking the difference between Romney and himself.
Odds for who will win the President, according to Bovada.com, are currently at 2/7 for Romney, 3/1 for Santorum, and 4/9 for the current President. Unless Santorum pulls a Howard Dean, a win in Michigan could put him in the driver’s seat.
